Prayer, Retreats and Meditation
This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. -1 John 5:14
At PRC, we believe prayer matters, so we pray often. We pray individually and collaboratively.
Prayer Chain A group of parishioners participate in a prayer phone chain. One church member calls another, and in turn, he or she, calls another. Prayers are invoked for people we know, people we don’t, and for local, regional, national, and international concerns and thanksgivings.
Text Prayer Chain In addition to our traditional phone prayer chain, we now have a text prayer chain as well. Prayer requests are shared and distributed by one parishioner sending a message to the next, and so on. Contact us to participate or to share a prayer request.
Prayer Lighting Ritual In critical times, we activate All Church Prayer where Church members light candles and say prayers in their respective homes, all at the same time. It’s been a powerful experience for those who have participated and an equally powerful witness to the effective power of prayer.
Retreats We like retreats. We like the practice of stepping out, stopping, and when possible, getting away from it all to recharge our spiritual batteries. As such, we’ve developed our own retreat days (for our church Consistory) and we’ve participated in other RCA retreats (women’s retreats) and gone outside the denomination too! The youth of our church, along with the Pastor and several Sunday School teachers, experience an annual overnight retreat at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City during Lent.
Meditation The Sanctuary is open for meditation and prayer on special days (such as September 11th), high holy days, and during liturgical seasons (especially during Advent and Lent). All are welcome to come in at leisure, pray, meditate and listen for God’s response.
