Plainview Reformed Church has been an active Reformed Protestant congregation since October 1957.
In the fall of 1956, the classis of North Long Island received approval from the Nassau County of Churches to establish a church in Plainview. The Hartman farm, which included a potato warehouse, a barn and a farmhouse was purchased. A call was issued to the Rev. Vernon Nagel to become the missionary pastor of this "new church", with the dedication being held in October 1957.
Over the next fifty years many changes took place. In 1962 the fellowship hall, pastor's study and classrooms were added. In 1982 fifteen, 100 year old stained glass windows from the Beaverdam Reformed Church were added. In 1997, as part of our 40th Anniversary, we were able to replace the Estey Organ with a digital organ.
In 2003, we replaced the steeple, and were able to add a new, paved parking lot and many other improvements in and around the church. The parsonage, which is over 150 years old went through a major renovation in 2006.
In 2007 we celebrated 50 years of doing Christ's work. Feel free to join us as we journey into the next 50 years!
Plainview Reformed Church is very active in the Linus Blanket Program. As of March 2008, the volunteers have made over 1200 blankets and donated them to children who are in crisis, whether it be illness, poverty or natural disaster.
